The Talyllyn Railway is a 7.25 miles long narrow gauge line using steam locomotives on all advertised passenger trains. Opened in 1865 it runs inland from Tywyn on the Mid Wales coast to Nant Gwernol. Much of the railway is within the Snowdonia National Park with waterfalls at Dolgoch and walks at Nant Gwernol. In 1951 the railway was saved from closure by the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society - the first such organisation in the world. Most of the train crews are volunteer members of the TRPS. Why not come and have a great family day out?
Our station at Tywyn is also home to the new Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, opened in 2005. Make sure you give yourself time to see the superb displays of locomotives and railway items including a recreation of the Revd Wilbert Awdry`s study (the creator of Thomas The Tank Engine).
The Porter`s Platter cafe at Tywyn Wharf station serves a mouthwatering selection of food to tempt you all year round, whilst our Quarryman's Caban cafe at Abergynolwyn station is open daily from Easter to the end of October.
The Railway Shop at Tywyn Wharf station stocks a wide range of books, gifts and souvenirs. |
