North West Anglesey

Cemaes Bay
There are many small villages in North West Anglesey, all worth exploring if you have the time. A wander round them reveals a wealth of history and natural attractions as well as shops for that special gift.

Wherever you go, town or country, there are a growing network of heritage trails and guided walks leading you discover more of the secrets and rich history that makes up this ancient island.

Amlwch

Tucked into the rugged landscape of coastline, and with its long working traditions, Amlwch today offers a wealth of interests to the visitor. Walk along the coast to Point Lynas or Amlwch Port where copper was exported all over the world. Explore the industrial workings of Parys Mountain itself or visit the little railway museum for a wealth of information on local history. For example, there used to be no less than 1,025 ale houses in the town!

For those who want to combine a delve into the past with other activities, why not try fishing from the rocks, or a round of golf? Or visit the leisure centre and swimming pool. There is also a local market on Fridays.

Cemaes Bay

Another delightful village which was once the haunt of smugglers, and has no less than five beaches. Nowadays, Cemaes has a range of small shops with a variety of goods on offer. Nearby is Wylfa Power Station which offers tours, and there is a nature trail around the headland which starts from the power station car park.
